Walking now in the Peak District after this long Summer with no rain, reminds me very much of walking in the Cevennes in the south of France.
The ground is dry and hard, no mud, an easy walking. Your boots crush the herbs underfoot creating that wonderful smell in the heat to accompany you on the journey.
Here in Wincle, in the south west of the Peak District, that is just how it seems at the moment. It is early August. Rain is promised but it hasn’t arrived yet.
We are enjoying it very much whilst it lasts.
